Study plan
How is youth specializing "wired together"?
Every semester we offer a 10 point subject within youth specializing, which is studied through participation in 2x 20 hours compact courses, local study groups and written assignments.
We will in short introduce you to these different "building blocks":
Compact courses:
The first Mondays to Wednesdays of September, November, February and April we offer a 20 hour compact course at SALT in Oslo. We start with lunch on Monday morning and end with lunch on Wednesday. In the course of 48 hours of lectures, group work, student presentations , field studies, individual guidance, storytelling, fellowship and the possibility to sleep.
In the September and February courses there will be international lecturers while the education on the other 2 courses will be attended to by Norwegian lecturers. In addition, the presentation of the exam assignments will be an integrated part of the September course.
All lectures will be held in English, while guidance , group work, etc. will be in Norwegian.
Study groups:
In between the 2 compact courses, the students will meet with a profession teacher 2 hours every 14 days.
The focus of the study groups will be individual follow-ups, the integration of studies in practice and the written assignments. There will be a maximum of 8 participants in every study group. The students that do not have the possibility to participate in a study group in Oslo, can work with alternative options.
Exam assignments:
Every semester you hand in 1 exam assignment. The assignment is between 2000 and 6000 words.
The assignment has to be based on curriculum, lectures, group conversations and field studies and have focus on describing and analyzing topics from the students practice. One can write individually or as a group.
A preliminary assignment shall be presented and discussed in connection with the semesters' second compact course. The finished assignment shall be handed in 1 month afterwards.
Curriculum:
You shall read approximately 900 pages for every course. 800 Pages are obligatory curriculum. The remaining pages are chosen by the students themselves.
Term assignments:
In the sixth semester there will be no compact course offered. With a starting point in introduction to research methods the students in this semester shall write a term assignment which is based on a minimum of 900 pages and have a volume of maximum 40.000 words.
If you prefer to write together with other students, a maximum of 20.000 words and 500 pages curriculum per student is required.
The assignments are presented to argumentation at a joint Nordic gathering at the end of the semester.
